Self, you do not want to argue with your landlord about having another cat. You also can't wake up to feed a kitten every three hours without being totally useless for other stuff. SRSLY. You can not has.

Busy weekend. Stopped by [livejournal.com profile] margoeve's birthday party in the afternoon and [livejournal.com profile] tazira's villians party much later that evening (and by that I mean "early next morning"). I'm afraid I wasn't exactly the life of either party, since I was feeling more than a little withdrawn and the introvert was definitely in control. I was pleased that at least a couple of people recognized the Dr. Girlfriend (Dr. Mrs. The Monarch) costume at the later party; I was dyeing the jacket at 6:30 and spraypainting the hat at 7 (the fabric I bought to cover it with wasn't working out so well, but that spraypaint designed for plastic worked a charm), so I'm frankly impressed I pulled it together in time to leave the house at all. The real question is: "Where am I ever going to wear knee-high white boots with 4-inch heels ever again?" costume pic behind the cut )

Sunday (way too early, after not getting to bed until around 5:30) we took advantage of an extra pair of tickets to see Corteo with [livejournal.com profile] rdhdsnippet, [livejournal.com profile] scherzoid, [livejournal.com profile] dababybean and a host of others. I think this is my favorite Cirque show ever in terms of costume and set design, although performance-wise I'm not sure whether I liked this or Dralion more.

Last night all the social stuff and lack of sleep caught up with me: I crashed on the sofa around 7:30, then woke up at 1:45 and went to bed. I thought I'd probably end up waking up around 3 AM and being up for the day, but I didn't wake up again until my alarm went off at 8. Twelve hours of sleep seem to have been what I needed and I wasn't in my normal Monday pissy mood. Of course the fact it's suddenly dark before I leave work is putting me back into a bad mood. Fifty-three days until the sunlight starts coming back, and 132 days until we can get back on DST in mid-March. (For the record, not interested in hearing rants about DST here please.) I think I may need to get a lightbox this year; the SAD has hit early and hard.

The little oasis of calm next to my desk.

One day I'll manage a picture without flash that doesn't turn out blurry, but today was not that day.

The cookbook collection

For someone who rarely cooks, I have a bit of a thing for cookbooks. The magazines are mostly few years worth of "Cooking Light" that I need to cull to make room for a few more books.

Luckily I have Gateway around to help when I need to clean off a shelf.

I'd been thinking after going through the photos from two weekends ago at Air & Space and the zoo that I should spend more time playing with my camera to try improving my shots a bit and working through some of the camera's features. Here's a perfect opportunity, stolen from [livejournal.com profile] sistercoyote:

Ask me to take a picture of any aspect of my life that you`re interested in - it can be anything from the house I live in to my favourite shoes. Leave your choice here as a comment, and I will reciprocate by taking the pictures and posting them as a diary entry. That way you get to know a little bit about my life, if you`re remotely interested in it.

I'll put a couple of conditions on it though: no risque pictures, and pictures of other people will only happen if they're amenable.

So today's viewing of Tai Shan was not the most exciting ever. We hit naptime, apparently.

The launch was scrubbed today thanks to high winds, so we'll try again tomorrow. I think I may have to postpone my flight, since if they launch later than about 2 PM or so I'll be incredibly lucky to make it back to the Orlando airport for my 5 PM flight given that you're kept in the viewing area for 40 minutes or so after launch, it appears. Ah well, at least today was a gorgeous day to sit around outside and watch nothing happen for three hours. ;) More later, since right now I'm taking advantage of the wireless connections in the hotel lobby and should go back and be social, but for now here's a few pics: )

The world might just be coming to an end, I thought I'd give y'all some warning.

Why do I say that?

At a party tonight, I voluntarily sat in front of a camera for at least half an hour. And when it was all done, there were actually pictures of me that I liked. Neither of those ever happens. (Yes, once I get the CD I'll share.) I'm not sure what exactly possessed me to have pictures taken, although the fact that I felt like I looked pretty good tonight might've had a lot to do with it. I recycled last year's fairy outfit, but added a wig. Heh, apparently I bought the Magical Purple Wig of Sassiness [edit: this is not one of the party pictures, this is one I took myself] or something, because I was the most at ease in front of a camera wielded by someone else that I've ever been in my life. Oh yeah, and having a gorgeous redhead snuggled into your cleavage doesn't hurt when trying to relax in front of the camera. [livejournal.com profile] indyansel, might want to make a note of that (and brunettes are good too). ;)

Why my typing speed at home is much slower than in the office:

That would be Mr. Gateway )

He is for some reason compelled to flop down on my desk and drape himself over my arm every single time I sit down at the keyboard, and it's hard to type with a 15 pound cat on your forearm.
