We're not going to any parties tonight, but we are going out to splurge on a really nice dinner. (Not sure why, but the restaurant folks seemed to think that a 10 PM seating was undesirable for some reason; as far as I'm concerned, that's almost exactly the right time to eat.) I figure this is as good a time as any -- and better than some -- to pull out some of the dresses hanging in my closet that I never find an excuse to wear. I'm thinking this one, although I have to go out and find a shrug or a sweater or something because 1) it's cold and 2) it's OMG-low-cut. I also have to hope that the underpinnings I tracked down both actually work and don't show, I haven't tried them yet. Gotta love clothes that require complicated feats of engineering. ;)

Although I am completely capable of dressing myself, it's always fun to get outside opinions; help me pick the right shoes. =) Current options are:

1. These, but in black matte silk rather than satin and with seed beads and tiny sequins on the bows. I think I'd prefer to have a plain bow, but I loved the style so much I could overlook the beads. Or pick them off carefully if they really bother me that much.

or

2. These, although this is the style I have. Zappos just has a better picture.

Yes, I love, love, LOVE the d'Orsay pumps, and no, I should not be allowed back into DSW (turn down the speakers before clicking :-P) again for a while. Except to see if the one here has a 7.5 in the second pair rather than an 8. The one in Rockville seems to have a much higher percentage (by which I mean "any", as the one near me only goes up to around $250) of the "I want to spend $500 for these ugly things why?" designer shoes. Lacroix, sweetie darling! My "favorite" was the zebra print with red patent trim labelled "Cheap and Chic" for $400. Buh? Then I looked closer, noticed it's Moschino, and realized that we meant that entirely in a relative sense.

The world might just be coming to an end, I thought I'd give y'all some warning.

Why do I say that?

At a party tonight, I voluntarily sat in front of a camera for at least half an hour. And when it was all done, there were actually pictures of me that I liked. Neither of those ever happens. (Yes, once I get the CD I'll share.) I'm not sure what exactly possessed me to have pictures taken, although the fact that I felt like I looked pretty good tonight might've had a lot to do with it. I recycled last year's fairy outfit, but added a wig. Heh, apparently I bought the Magical Purple Wig of Sassiness [edit: this is not one of the party pictures, this is one I took myself] or something, because I was the most at ease in front of a camera wielded by someone else that I've ever been in my life. Oh yeah, and having a gorgeous redhead snuggled into your cleavage doesn't hurt when trying to relax in front of the camera. [livejournal.com profile] indyansel, might want to make a note of that (and brunettes are good too). ;)

Mmmm, haircut. It feels so much lighter.

(Stop with the wailing and gnashing of teeth; I just got a couple of inches taken off the ends and layers put in to get rid of the "Alice"-like triangular hair thing I sort of had going on. I've skipped the traditional Great Shearing for this year.)

Soon, I shall have long, flowing blue locks. Once I get motivated enough to actually get out the dye. I'm reminded though that perhaps I may want to chat with my doctor at my next appointment to see if she's got any idea why I might be shedding huge clumps of hair; my stylist today commented on the unusually large amount of shedding too.

I decided the other day that I was going to attempt wearing my contacts more often. I found where I'd stashed them and had a moment of panic where I thought that one of them had ripped. (My contacts are not particularly cheap to replace since I need toric lenses, and I can't swing an exam and new lenses just at the moment.) Luckily I was mistaken, so I bought new cleaning solution, cleaned and soaked them, and decided that today I'd try to wear them for a few hours. I'd forgotten how damn hard it is for me to get contacts in; not only do I have to get used to sticking my fingers in my eyes again, but I have to make sure that my lenses are in correctly (they have to go in a specific way) which takes several minutes of holding the contacts up to the light and trying to find the mark that indicates that I'm putting them in correctly. Do you know how hard it is to find a little tiny mark on a lens when it's pretty much guaranteed that you can't see because hey, no vision correction yet? The first one is always a bitch, the second one sort of involves squinting through the eye that has the other lens in already.

So anyway, half an hour and several obscenities later I have my contacts in. It takes a little while to get used to focusing, but I'm surprised I can see as well as I can. This prescription is fairly old and I'm sure I need to get it updated, but I think actually I can see better with these than I can with my newer glasses. Well, at a distance anyway. I'm having a bit of a hard time focusing on things closer to me right now, like computer screens. I keep reaching up out of habit to push my glasses up and not finding anything there, which is taking some getting used to. "You look funny without your glasses on" was a fine note to head out on too. ;-P It is kind of odd to be able to see my eyes though.

I should see if we're actually going out to see a movie; if not, I'm going to curl up with the stack of books I came home from McKay's with and I should probably take the contacts out. Any bets on how long that is gonna take? (Actually, taking them out has always been the easier part, even if thinking too carefully about the process kind of makes me shudder.)

This morning I put on my "normally a wee bit tight at the best of times" jeans fresh out of the dryer and had no problems at all getting into them.
