Busy weekend. Stopped by [livejournal.com profile] margoeve's birthday party in the afternoon and [livejournal.com profile] tazira's villians party much later that evening (and by that I mean "early next morning"). I'm afraid I wasn't exactly the life of either party, since I was feeling more than a little withdrawn and the introvert was definitely in control. I was pleased that at least a couple of people recognized the Dr. Girlfriend (Dr. Mrs. The Monarch) costume at the later party; I was dyeing the jacket at 6:30 and spraypainting the hat at 7 (the fabric I bought to cover it with wasn't working out so well, but that spraypaint designed for plastic worked a charm), so I'm frankly impressed I pulled it together in time to leave the house at all. The real question is: "Where am I ever going to wear knee-high white boots with 4-inch heels ever again?" costume pic behind the cut )

Sunday (way too early, after not getting to bed until around 5:30) we took advantage of an extra pair of tickets to see Corteo with [livejournal.com profile] rdhdsnippet, [livejournal.com profile] scherzoid, [livejournal.com profile] dababybean and a host of others. I think this is my favorite Cirque show ever in terms of costume and set design, although performance-wise I'm not sure whether I liked this or Dralion more.

Last night all the social stuff and lack of sleep caught up with me: I crashed on the sofa around 7:30, then woke up at 1:45 and went to bed. I thought I'd probably end up waking up around 3 AM and being up for the day, but I didn't wake up again until my alarm went off at 8. Twelve hours of sleep seem to have been what I needed and I wasn't in my normal Monday pissy mood. Of course the fact it's suddenly dark before I leave work is putting me back into a bad mood. Fifty-three days until the sunlight starts coming back, and 132 days until we can get back on DST in mid-March. (For the record, not interested in hearing rants about DST here please.) I think I may need to get a lightbox this year; the SAD has hit early and hard.

The things you find on YouTube, thanks to pointers from the Washington Post no less.

Things I need to find before Saturday, because I've been slacking:

  • Cotton chef's coat that can take dye (like this, but hopefully cheaper; this would be even better, but I doubt it would be long enough). Something like this dentist's jacket would also be a fine option. Found this, which is nearly perfect and hopefully will get here by Thursday.
  • White go-go boots
  • White gloves, wrist-length
  • Either a pink pillbox hat or fabric to make same
  • Black bobbed wig

Fabric can likely be found at JoAnn or G Street, I bet I could find gloves at Needless MarkupNeiman Marcus or similar swanky department store. The black wig ought to be no problem. If any localfolks happen to have leads on any of the more unlikely of these (particularly the jacket), please to be letting me know. Fang kew.

(Now let's see how many people can guess who I'm intending to go as just by this list of costume pieces. XD)

We just got our first trick or treater of the evening; while the door was open so I could give Darth some candy, a little grey tabby decided to saunter on in to the house and make itself comfortable. Gateway was...confused. I picked our little visitor up and put her back out on the front step, where she tried again to come in and make herself at home. After the second time she found herself sitting outside on the step being laughed at, she wandered on off to check out the shrubbery near the garage. Gateway is still trying to figure out how there could be another cat in HIS house and why on earth HIS human's hand smells like A DIFFERENT CAT.

I dressed up for work today in the wig, purple and black stripey tights, the boots o'doom, my floor-length velvet skirt from Rose Mortem, and a velvet Lip Service top with long bell sleeves. Apparently I can drive in those boots, no problem. This is good to know. I was the only one in the office who dressed up, but that's okay; any excuse to wear this stuff that I can come up with is fine with me. The only downside was that my contacts were very dry all day and my eyes were killing me, so I took my contacts out and got into something far less fabulous before anyone showed up at the door.
