Okay, let's try this poll thing again, hopefully with less Broken this time. Radio buttons because what fun is a religious war if you aren't forced to pick a specific side?

Listening to the replay of American Top 40 from 6/30/1984 on XM today, in particular one of the long-distance dedications, inspired this question:

I'm thinking of going to see The Rude Mechanicals production of The Importance of Being Earnest; any of y'all interested in joining me? If it affects your planning, the venue's in Adams Morgan; given that, I'm leaning towards one of the Saturday shows myself since I work waaaaaaay out west of the city until around 6.

Holiday cards from me. Yes?

(I would be most grateful if you would also include the name that should be on the envelope please.)

It's that time again: time to try and convice the Powers That Be to blow the budget on a conference. Where should I start? Yes, I realize that to have a particularly useful answer you'd need to have more information; answering polls is so much more fun when you're pulling an answer out of thin air though. ;)

[Poll #950632]

My own preferences in order are: OSCON (although I'm severely hampered by the fact they don't put up any session information or registration info until well after I'd have to have registered for the other two I'm really interested in), MySQL, php|tek (I went to this last year and was pleased with the technical content). My coworker will probably go to LISA.

CD swap

Okay, there's apparently at least a little interest in the idea, so let's do this thing. Here's the deal:

  • Unlike my previous swaps, this one is going to have a theme: if your life was being filmed (à la Zach Braff or Cameron Crowe, ferinstance), what would the soundtrack look like? This doesn't necessarily mean you have to put together a disc full of The Shins, unless of course "New Slang" really did change your life. (I kid, I like The Shins, I'd be perfectly happy to hear it on swap discs.)

  • Fill out ye olde LJ polle below to let me know if you want in; answers accepted through next Friday night.

  • The default will be for everyone to make one disc for every other person in the swap, mail the discs to me, and I'll send them back out. Not that I think any of my friends are likely to be swaplifters or anything like that, but it makes it easy to figure out who's gotten discs. If we've got ten people or so involved, I'll divide the participants up into two groups so that people don't have to burn huge numbers of CDs.

To go, or not to go: that is the question. Whether 'tis better for the budget to fail to book a hotel room and avoid dealers' row (work-safety advisory), or to grab a stack of cash, and by going spend it.

(Redid the poll after belatedly realizing that not everyone necessarily wants to broadcast the fact they're going to be there. Only viewable by me now.)
