Good godd*mn. That cat who was set on fire? Well, not so much.

At least she does seem to be refunding donations. I got notice yesterday that mine had been refunded via Paypal. As for my thoughts about the sort of person who'd conduct a "sociological experiment" of this particular type and then let your friends stick their necks out for you, well, they're not exactly fit for print. Glad to see that you proved to your dad that there are some really good people. Unfortunately, you've also proved beyond a shadow of a doubt that some of them really do suck.

As someone who struggles with depression, I can sympathize, but boy oh boy.

I will say this: it took balls to admit to it and accept all the anger that rushed out from it, instead of running away and hiding. Maybe she can be given that much.

When I was her age, I was actively supporting people who were doing things similar, or worse. I wasn't perpetuating them; my honesty (and fear of consequences) wouldn't let me go that far - but I believed the people who were doing them, even when they told me they were lying, and asked for my help in continuing the lie.

There is always the possibility of redemption. It'll be damn hard, a hell of a struggle, a lot of work and hardship; but if she does that work, she deserves whatever redemption she can earn for herself. I don't believe she's irreparably broken... but I also believe she's got a very, very hard time ahead of her, entirely of her own making.
