geekchick: (wasting my life on the internet)
I went on a spree today and added a bunch of new stuff to my podcasts and feed readers. This list will probably tell you something about me, but I'm not sure exactly what that is. I don't actually read or listen to all (or even most) of this every day; I'd have no time to do anything else if I did. That said, recommendations for other interesting stuff are always welcome.

I tend to keep most syndicated stuff here, just because it's easiest to check everything in one place. All syndicated accounts are put into a syndication filter so I can read it or not, as I have time/inclination:

This weekend I have:

* done a small amount of Giftmas shopping.
* burned three GAMT II CDs which have to go out tomorrow.
* attended a fun party with lots of yummy chocolate, cool people, and the Amazing Exploding Pyrex.
* put together most of my new computer, which has been sitting here for months waiting for me to get around to it. Athlon 64 3200+, 1 GB of RAM, and what was supposed to be XP Pro, although I just got a refund notice from the place I bought it from claiming that after telling me it would ship on Friday, it's now out of stock. Grump. Time to try elsewhere I guess.

Seems like there should've been more, but it was overall a pretty slack weekend. In fact, putting together the computer guts was done pretty much so I could claim to have done *something* on my list of "things I should've done a while ago".

Otherwise, I've had in the last few days several nice conversations with [livejournal.com profile] nminusone and an email that made me act all twitterpated and bounce around happily for a while. (The cluephone rang, and the call was for me. *grin*) No "Brokeback Mountain" for me yet, have to wait until next week. Saw "Pride and Prejudice" instead, and managed for most of the movie to hold off on the "wait, that's not right!" commentary. I vastly prefer the A&E version, I confess.

Accomplished today:

  • Got out of bed and got dressed. (After last night's bout of serious depression, this is actually a big accomplishment. Thank $deity that there's sunlight today.)
  • Cleaned out the refrigerator.
  • Cleaned the kitchen and washed dishes.
  • Entered another three shelves of books into LibraryThing.
  • Sliced up two small pumpkins, which are currently in the oven roasting. When they're done, I'll probably make pumpkin bread.
  • Went grocery shopping. Since I have not the slightest idea when [livejournal.com profile] nminusone is expected home, I figured I'd go pick up something low-effort for dinner. I remember now why I never go to the store before 8 PM on Sundays. Ugh.
  • Eventually remembered to eat something. Oops.
  • Finished Night of the Avenging Blowfish (as one Amazon reviewer described it, "the funniest book that will send you into a depression") and started in on Sex and Sunsets (which I've now finished).

Still intending to do:

  • Take out trash.
  • Two chapters of homework.
  • Email landlord about the latest roof leak.
  • Fold laundry.

I keep reading all these "10 things I've done" lists and have decided that all y'all are just so much cooler than I am. I don't know that I can even come up with anywhere near ten things that people on my friends list might not have done, but here's an attempt.

I'm a special and unique little flower. Or something )

What does it mean that by picking just from songs I already have on my computer for a playlist called "Music to Mope By", I come up with 2.1 hours on a first pass? I think it means that I need to rip a lot more of my cheerier CDs onto this drive.

I'm not actually nearly as mopey as I've been for the last two weeks, I've in fact apparently got adequate amounts of cope for the time being; it just seemed like an amusing project at the time, to put aside for future wallowing. (Although never, ever again should "Pictures of You" be the last song I hear before going to bed.) Likely to stay on it:

  • "Pictures of You", The Cure
  • "Sleeping with Ghosts", Placebo (which is probably only mopey for me, for the same reason the previous song makes me sad)
  • "Lover, You Should've Come Over", Jeff Buckley
  • "A Man and a Woman", U2
  • "Ever So Lonely/Eyes/Ocean", Sheila Chandra (not particularly mopey, but the sound fits well)
  • "Sand in My Shoes", Dido
  • "Tall Trees in Georgia", Eva Cassidy
  • "Dance Me to the End of Love", Leonard Cohen (for which one could substitute nearly any Leonard Cohen song; he could be singing the "Sesame Street" theme and it would sound mournful.)
  • "Love is Everything", Jane Siberry
  • "Hallelujah", any of several versions

What else would you put on here? Probably there should be some Tori and some Nick Cave.
