Thanks to [livejournal.com profile] pleonastic for mentioning this, I'd have missed out on it otherwise.

Six Apart is offering $30 "philanthropic gift certificates" for use at Donors Choose, an organization that lets you donate to a specific project of your choosing from proposals submitted by (US) schoolteachers. You can use the gift certificate to help buy needed classroom supplies for schools in high-poverty districts(for example), and you get to decide where your money goes. It costs you nothing, 6A is kicking in that $30; you of course should feel free to contribute an additional amount if you so choose, but you don't have to. The gift certificate offer expires at 5:00 PM Pacific on Monday (Oct. 1). Details are available here. (Why does there *always* have to be wank in the comments? I'm not sure how some of those repeat offenders slipped out of my killfile, must readjust. For the record, not particularly interested in reading 6A wank in comments to this post either.)

Dewey Donation System 2006 Book Drive - donate to help the Harrison County, MS library system recover from Katrina. The Pass Christian Library lost its entire collection, the Biloxi Library lost around 39,000 titles (including the entire children's collection), the Gulfport Library lost its entire children's, adult fiction and a/v collections.

Spider-Man Panda Bear Autographed by Tobey Maguire, up for auction benefitting the World Wildlife Fund. Stuffed bears dressed up as something else are always incredibly cute, but this one is off the scale.

There are a bunch of other bears for auction here, like the Nicole Kidman "Moulin Rouge" bear, or the George Clooney "ER" bear, and one that includes four VIP tickets to "The Daily Show".

Today is Sweetmorn, day 37 in the season of Bureaucracy, 3271.

So, [livejournal.com profile] nminusone is also offering to make donations (up to $600 total) to several organizations in response to links/comments; it's the least I can do to help publicize it, especially since he picked one of my favorite organizations. =)

The organizations, for the curious, are America's Second Harvest, Best Friends Animal Society and the Humane Society of the United States.
