Sep. 27th, 2011 10:14 amBoston folks:
I (along with
chadu) will be parked at the Hotel Marlowe in Cambridge this weekend when I am not at the jQuery Conference across the street. Time is pretty limited for me, but if anyone wants to meet up for coffee or drinks or whatever, let me know.

Sep. 12th, 2009 07:37 pmSince nobody expressed any interest in getting together for dinner tonight and my shoes (which literally filled with water on my walk over this morning; it was only drizzling when I left!) are still soggy, I'm leaning strongly towards staying in with room service and my "Planet Earth" DVDs. Soggy, gross shoes trump scallion pancake, apparently. [Edit: The problem with the room service idea is that I don't really want anything on the menu except for an omelette, which I can't have right now. Meh.]
I must say that the $150 cost of this conference is a crazy good value. Two full days of technical sessions (most of which have been good), swag that includes two books, a tshirt and various other stuff, catered breakfast/lunch/happy hour with open bar. So far, so good. (Although this tweet, it's funny because it's true. Well, there are more than 4 of us, but I doubt it's more than 20 out of a 300 person conference.) The Themeroller/CSS framework has been the best so far, but I gather some of the ones I missed were good as well. Seems like every time there was a conflict, I chose incorrectly. ;) I think I'm going to skip the Q&A wrap-up session tomorrow in favor of getting on the road to head home. Now I just need to figure out how to manage the car since my parking pass for the hotel expires at 3 PM.

Sep. 11th, 2009 10:57 pmFinally made it to the hotel, eleven hours after I got on the road for reals and eleven and a half after I left the house.
1) The rain was following me, apparently. There was a stretch of about fifteen minutes on 84 in CT where it stopped, otherwise it was raining the whole f'ing time.
2) Note to self: next time, top off the gas tank at Vince Lombardi because gas in CT where I ended up stopping was 30 cents a gallon more expensive.
3) Wow, there are a lot of Megabuses making the NY-Boston run.
4) Missed a turn and ended up on the other side of the river from where I was supposed to be. Refrained from running through a rampaging herd of drunk, soaking wet BU students while trying to recover from my mistake. Also, I did drive past the hotel entrance and nearly had a meltdown (because hi, eleven hours driving in the rain = shot nerves), but the second pass around the block was more successful.
5) Getting in at 10 PM meant that I missed a chance to have dinner with a friend like we'd been planning.
6) I'm voting "tackily awesome" for the hotel room. Leopard print carpets, red velvet chairs, and the provided robes come in either leopard or zebra. My phone doesn't want to send Flickr posts tonight for some reason, so no pics yet.
7) I think I'm gonna fall over and go boom now.

Sep. 10th, 2009 05:20 pmOkay, so I guess I've got a couple things firmed up. Will be arriving in greater Boston sometime tomorrow evening, although when will depend entirely on when I get my butt out of bed in the morning and what traffic is like. I'll be staying at the Hotel Marlowe since it's about a half mile from the conference location (heh heh, "Microsoft NERD"). I gather that the hotel is near-ish both Lechmere and Kendall/MIT T stops, so I've got that going for me. I have my car, but I plan to move it from the garage as infrequently as possible because you Boston drivers is craaaaaaaazy.
As far as social time, the best option will probably be Saturday night sometime after 8; there's conference-providedfree booze happy hour after the sessions, plus allowing for time to get back to the hotel and freshen up. Any interest in dinner on Saturday? Also, suggestions for a reasonable spot? I have no idea what the options are anymore since I haven't been to Boston and really outside the Arisia hotel for a good while. I suppose there's always the venerable Mary Chung (Mmm, scallion pancake. Mmm, dun dun noodles.) but I'm fairly flexible.

Aug. 29th, 2009 12:38 pmI decided I could manage to spend a whopping $10 to see The National, Girl Talk, and Pete Tong (plus St. Vincent and Mates of State if I feel like spending 14 hours or so at Merriweather). Anyone else going to the Virgin festival tomorrow? They released a bunch of tickets today at 10; I expect anyone who paid $100 for a ticket on craigslist probably feels kinda stupid. I'd feel kinda stupid too if I'd paid $100 for a ticket that started out as free.
I'll be in Boston (well, Cambridge) the weekend of Sept. 11-13 for the jQuery conference. Not sure where I'm staying yet, although I really want to try and swing the Hotel Marlowe because a) it's about half a mile from the venue and b) leopard-print carpets and red velvet upholstery, baby; it's much more budget-friendly to stay further out and drive in though. (I'm doing this on my own dime.) We'll see. I'd probably have that Friday night free, plus Saturday night after 7 or 8. My plan is to drive up Friday and then drive back Sunday night after the end of the conference. Once I get plans more settled, I'll see about calling a dinner foo or something.
On a less-fun note, today's plans involve the farmer's market (already done) and house cleaning (I'm procrastinating by reading LJ and Twitter). Woohoo.

Incoming! (for the Boston contingent)
Mar. 6th, 2007 09:40 pmI'm going to be in Boston this weekend for a quick visit. I'll be tired from driving on Friday and have plans on Saturday night, but if you'd like to indulge in a bit of Geeceewatching at close range, we (
wolfy and I) are planning to have lunch at Doyle's Cafe in Jamaica Plain on Sunday around 1 PM. Wanna join us?
