Jul. 7th, 2006 02:00 pmThis is exactly the problem with my phone, except mine oh-so-considerately waited until it was fifteen months old and thus out of warranty to start freezing up. The Cingular store in Tyson's was a whole lot of no help when I asked if there was anything that could be done to fix it, which doesn't surprise me since the first words out of the guy's mouth when I handed him my phone were "I've never seen one of these phones before". :-P Long story short(-ish): not eligible for a new phone at a discount from Cingular until the end of October (and they don't offer this model anymore, it's long-since discontinued), current phone can't be repaired under warranty, so I see eBay in my future and I don't know yet when my cell number will be in service again.
[Edit: Will try a different store tonight to see if it might be a problem with the sim card that swapping might help. If I'm lucky, that'll do it, but from what I've found it doesn't seem promising.]
[Son of edit: Even without a sim card in the phone at all, I get the same problem. It's apparently something screwed up in the phone itself. Snagged a Motorola V635 quad-band phone on eBay.]

Speaking of cars, time for a new mechanic. The timing belt/water pump/valve cover gaskets were replaced, then not two hours later the spark plug wires went kablooey, which is why it wouldn't start on Friday night. They replaced the spark plugs and wires and things seemed to be okay, but this morning when I started the car up I heard a disturbing noise coming from under the hood and the world disappeared in a huge cloud of smoke that smelled like oil. Screw it, I'm going to find the closest Mazda dealer and let them take a look at it.

It's been one of those days all day long
Mar. 8th, 2006 03:59 pmI remembered today to actually put my morning vitamins in a pill case so I could take them with me and choke them down when I get to the office. I promptly walk out of the house, leaving the filled pill case sitting someplace that wasn't my purse, I'm guessing it's on the island in the kitchen. Second day in a row I've forgotten them.
Then I get to the office, where I've been discovering all sorts of little inconsistencies in a database stemming from a bit of a data reformatting that I'd done a while ago. Nothing horrendous, but they still need to be straightened out and so I take care of that. Whereupon I discover that straightening out a few of those minor inconsistencies has introduced a much more serious problem. Luckily it's all something that I can fix, although there are several steps involved that all have to be done by hand and it's tedious. But it's done now and I think everything's okay at the moment.
I forgot about a concall I needed to be on at 1 and was about to go out to Warrenton and pick up lunch for the office. Luckily one of my coworkers remembered and asked me about it in time for me to dial in.
I just remembered that I should check on my drugstore.com order that I expected earlier in the week. UPS tells me it was delivered to my front door on Monday afternoon, which is odd because I certainly didn't see a package from them out there at any point this week among the other packages that did show up. Oh, hey, look at that; they delivered it to my old apartment. I guess when I updated my address with them it was only the billing address. Oops. I hope whoever lives there now enjoys the giant bottle of Burt's Bees Rosewater & Glycerin toner and the, er, other stuff.
In the category of "things that don't suck" though, there's this wonderful cover that I'm listening to.

Oct. 27th, 2001 06:36 pmToday is Setting Orange, day 8 in the season of The Aftermath, 3167.
There's something utterly annoying about an online course on how to design to Section 508 standards that has segments that break if you're using Netscape rather than IE. And somehow their feedback form, where they ask you to report anything that might help them improve accessibility, doesn't seem to work in Netscape either. Third time in the past week that I've run into sites where people who Really Should Know Better[tm] don't bother testing in anything other than IE 5.
