geekchickA while back, I'd asked for writing prompts for things I don't normally talk about here. (Feel free to add new comments if you want.) I should start actually writing responses, no?
The first question was about what an ideal first date would look like, if there was such a thing. Having thought about it a bit, I think the last "first date" I went on might be pretty darn close.
The date in question was with a person that I knew to some extent from online and had spent a few hours with in person, so it was someone with whom I did have at least a little prior interaction and there were none of the various stresses that go along with blind dates. We met up for coffee in a neutral place on an afternoon where both of us had other plans for later in the day, so there was a definite timeframe for the date. Note that the time between start of date and following engagements was several hours, so it wasn't like we would be rushed if we didn't want to be. We started with coffee at Karibou and some chit chat, and then after an hour or so with things seeming to go well, spontaneously decided to add on an additional stop for lunch and a drink and more talking. After lunch, it was time to head off to our respective afternoon non-date plans, which wrapped things up without any awkwardness or feeling like anyone was likely to overstay their welcome. (I think the effective time limit thing was a fantastic idea, although I believe it was at least somewhat coincidental.) No pressure, no worrying about how to split expensive dinner bills, just a few hours of "getting to know you".
It's now fifteen months later and I'm still seeing the person in question, so I guess you could say it went pretty well. ;)
