*sigh* It seems that if you want to buy a house for under $250K in Fairfax or Falls Church, you are consigned to the land of the butt-ugly houses (at least according to realtor.com). I did find one that could actually be kind of cute, and it's even within a couple of miles of our current place. Not that we'll be buying anything before March of next year at the absolute earliest, but it never hurts to look.

Except then I'd have to live in Newton. No thanks. =) Just a few miles away from the house I thought might be cute (except for being too near the high school), we've got the "distinctive homes starting in the low 700s". Townhouses are $300k, and that's all they're building out there these days. I want to move further out into the sticks where I could still get a nice house for under half a million, but Chris will have none of that and we'd be unlikely to get dsl there anyway.
