I found it interesting that when voting yesterday in Fairfax County, party affiliations were only listed for the two state offices (senator and delegate). If you went in intending to vote party line, you really needed to check ahead of time and make sure you knew which candidate you wanted.

In one of my local races:
One other seat was closely contested. With 100 percent of the votes counted, Sen. Ken T. Cuccinelli II (R) held a 91 vote lead over Democrat Janet S. Oleszek. Cuccinelli at 3:30 a.m. sent an e-mail appeal to Republican supporters for volunteers and donations to support him in a possible recount. As of this morning neither side had conceded defeat or claimed victory.

Even if that result stands, Democrats control the Senate for the first time in a decade and they also picked up House seats.

I'm a bit ashamed to say I didn't do much research before the election, so I intended to vote the party line. Luckily for me, a volunteer from the Democratic Party was standing outside handing out sample ballots showing the candidates they endorsed. I used that as my guide.

The interesting thing to me is that voter turnout, for an off-year election, was like 30% in my neck of the woods. That's amazing! 30% of the people actually give a shit enough to vote!

Actually, I voted straight Republican for the first time in years. Kept getting emails from the Brady Bunch, endorsing all the Democrats.

Now, if I'd been in the 34th district instead of the 37th, I would've voted for ONE Democrat, at least :-D.

You have to admit, finally, that Virginia has become purple... :)
