From DCist:
Metro:
Tourist dad talking to kids after a day of museum and monument hopping.
Dad: "So, what did you kids learn today?"
Kid #1: "Nothing"
Dad: "Really? But we went to the Air and Space museum, WWII Memorial...[continues on with list of museums]"
Kid #2: "Um, I learned that other countries better listen to us or we'll bomb them"
Pentagon:
Following a massive pizza party...
Enlisted Soldier: "Sir, do you know what sardines look like?"
Officer: [bewildered pause] "Uhhhh, yeah... why?"
Enlisted Soldier: "This pizza box has 'Sardinia' written on it and I don't want sardines on my pizza. It has white meat on it that looks like chicken, though."
Officer: "Sardinia has nothing to do with sardines. It's just the name of the pizza. They name their pizzas after locations. Sardinia is a small island off the coast of India."

People are amazing, aren't they? The funniest thing I've ever heard along those lines was in history class...we were playing a "trivia game" to study for a test on ancient rome, and the question was asked, "what Roman emperor built a wall across Britain? Hint: the wall is named after him."

"Berlin?" came one student's answer.

We never even learned anything about that while I was in school, so I suppose that's at least something.

Still, it should be fairly obvious that the Romans did not build the Berlin Wall, and it was not built in Britain.

It would be worse if you were British ;)

Goes to show, in the Metro vignette, that the dad probably chose museums that appealed to his interests (History Channel?) rather than the interests of 8-15 year olds...

Oh, did they add Museums of Breaking Stuff and Setting It on Fire ("Sponsored by US Army Recruitment"), Bodily Functions ("Second Wing in Back Now Open") and Frog Baseball ("Ride the Trash Can and the Giant Tire til you puke!")?

Actually that'd be a good way to keep some kids in line: "If you don't settle down and behave we won't have time to go to the Smithsonian Museum of Boogers and Spit!"
