I promise today I'll try not to be Posty McPosterson, but at the moment I've gone from non-caffeinated to my second cup of high-test since 8:30 AM and I'm a wee tiny bit, er, bouncy. I'll just update this post as I find other things that need killin' linkin'.
- Pluto gets the boot. We're now down to eight official planets and
onethree "dwarf planets". - FDA approves OTC sales of Plan B. You have to be 18 and get it from the pharmacist; girls 17 and under will need a doctor's note. Well, it's a welcome start.
- Jerry Falwell is against stem cell research. In other news, the sun rose in the east this morning. I know it did, because I saw it. *wooze*
- George Allen gets around to apologizing for using a racial slur to refer to a staffer for his Democratic challenger. He also welcomed the Fairfax native to "America and the real world of Virginia". (One can I suppose dispute the idea that Southwest Virginia == the real world, but that's my blue-leaning NoVA biases raising their head.) It seems Senator Allen's campaign speech ended up boosting James Webb's polling numbers instead.
- Kenyans are preparing a hero's welcome for US Senator Barack Obama.
- Via Largehearted Boy, Stylus offers a YouTube J-Rock sampler. (looks in
dawnmipb's direction)
pickwick points out something to make a fangirl happy: Ian Rankin will write a few issues of Hellblazer after he finishes the last Inspector Rebus novel sometime around the end of the year. Eee!
- Stereogum gives us Sufjan Stevens and David Byrne performing "Saginaw, Michigan" (as Byrne says, "a song about Michigan Sufjan didn't write").
- Cooking Cute, a bento site. Totoro onigiri!
- Apple settles patent infringement suits with Creative. Apple pays $100 million and gets a license for the hierarchical user interface used in Creative's Zen players, and Apple's countersuit claiming infringement by Creative on four of Apple's patents goes away.
- If you're a benchmarking weenie, CPU2006 has been released.
- Jeff Atwood at Coding Horror talks about GPU power consumption and recommends anything but SourceSafe.
- Joel on Software on management methods.
- Kathy Sierra at Creating Passionate Users: Geek marketing should be like a good lover.
