I'm impressed. All I can think while wearing 4-inch heels is, "Ow ow ow fuck ow ow how the FUCK does anyone walk in these?"

"The same way you get to Carnegie Hall..."

(currently in 4" platform oxfords, which require some getting used to but in a different way from heels...)

I was amused by the Ana Marie Cox review, especially...

I'm not sure if she's right about that, but it's significant that Pollitt would see the world outside her window through a scrim of 30-year-old lefty rhetoric. She simply rejects the argument that the meaning of the flag (like the meaning of the Pledge of Allegiance, which was composed by a 19th-century socialist) might change.

I'm one of those people who thinks that the Pledge of Allegiance's orginal meaning-state worshipping propaganda intended to turn school children into pliable slaves-has not changed, and when I heard alleged conservatives complain about kids not saying the Pledge, I usually drag them over to read the original material written by the author as a means of explaining why I will be telling my kids not to do it. Showing them pictures of school children making a fascist style salute to the flag really amuses me (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image:1892_Pledge_of_Allegiance2.jpg). Cognitive dissonance is the usual result of this, but I enjoy causing it, and I consider this an excellent illustration of how most "conservatives" are people striving to uphold the principles of the last generation's liberals.

I now have more sympathy for Katha Politt than I used to.

My first thought was admittedly "wish I could see you wearing four-inch heels, or those boots from our last date"...

Got the package. :D
