So, what do you think should be the official animal of Washington, DC? (With bonus Butterstick picture!) The comments so far are hysterical.

Giant pandas are by far the cutest option, but I think anyone who's ever spent any time in DC at night will agree that if you want to go with something native, you need to vote for the ROUS.

Give the pasttime of most of D.C.'s transient population (i.e., the ones who get elected) AND the manner in which they routinely mess with our economy, I'd recommend the bull. A big, bad-tempered mammal with horns and little or no bowel control --what better totem for a D.C. career politician?

When I was at the Washington zoo, the pandas did nothing but sleep. I watched for about an hour and one of them woke up to scratch its crotch a little bit, and then fell back asleep, while the other got up long enough to move its bowels, noisily, in the direction of the people watching.

I'm coming out full on in favor of the melanistic squirrel - I've never seen so many in a concentrated area as I have here [thinks fondly of cute black squirrel who's always on the same tree at work]
