Last night, brian1789 invited me along to a dinner with the Association of Mars Explorers, with presentations by Steve Squyres on the experience of working on the MER mission and Agustin Chicarro from ESA on Mars Express. He sure knows the best date suggestions for nerdy chicks. ;)

Tonight will be slightly less geeky, we've got tickets to see Billy Bragg at the Birchmere. Speaking of which, I'll be ducking out here in a bit to make it halfway across the state to will-call in time to get a line number that will get me in to the hall when there are still two seats together.

Steve Squyers! Oooh! He gives such *good* lecture. It's one of the things I miss about being in L.A. -- I had a steady diet of space lectures.

We got the "what it felt like when [dire event] happened" account, different from the usual straight science talk... it was informal. Although one of the rovers is in serious trouble, it seems.

I'm going to be very sad when the curent rovers finally stop transmitting. I think it's the science mission that's been the most intimate for me so far.
