I found a link to this reading friendsfriends. 46 acre farm with pond and views of Mt. Shasta. $392,000. I don't like the house itself at all, but...

46 acres. $392,000.

My next door neighbor's 2200-ish sf *townhouse* listed at $499,000, and the one three doors down sold for over half a million.

Yeah, I know: lower salaries, lower cost of living, lack of job market, all that. But still...
Sheesh.

Would be a good place to go retire and raise my goats, ya think? (I'd have plenty of room to get them a trampoline.)

Our .20 acre lot with a tiny, major-fixer-upper house in Fremont went for $525k.

I grew up 4 houses down from "Shasta View Drive," and we could see Shasta from the roof. I love that region, I was conceived there. (Haven't clicked through the link.) Mom was raised up there. It's at least as conservative as anything in West Virginia.

BIEBER! Damn! That's remote, but just gorgeous. But very remote. But gorgeous. That's on the way up to Alturas, where I was conceived and where Mom's dad was the town doctor in the thirties.

Oh, and job market there:

Cattle-ranching (including providing summer pasturage to horses and cows from drier parts of California, we used to truck our cows to Burney in the summer)
Logging
Providing services to cattle-ranchers and loggers
Selling bait to anglers
Selling snack food to deer hunters

Sad thing is, the Sj Mercury ran that ad four years ago about Palo Alto. Now its true about parts of San Jose as well.

Hey, I could be at your doorstep in mere hours, there. :)

Here... my tiny 1100sf fixer-upper in Mountain View appraises for $740K, the houses next door and across the street sold for more... I couldn't afford to live here if I didn't already have a place.

Good place to go and write books too!

Hey - if I sold my flat in London I could afford that!
