Things I find out from reading Bookslut: Hugh Laurie wrote a novel. I did not know that (and now I am compelled to go hunt it down). [As a tangentially related note, I forgot that "House" wasn't on last night and so ended up deleting a "Fullmetal Alchemist" episode I probably shouldn't have removed yet from the DVR to make room to record an hour of @#$% baseball instead. Grump.]

Anyway, the "story" part:

Every man alive has a Caro still rattling around his fading skull -- those wild, winsome and deeply dangerous girls that you can’t possibly live with and would drive over your grandmother to see just one more time.

Is that true? Do you have someone like that? (It's phrased the way it is because it refers to a specific character, but my question isn't limited to specifically men and their old flames.) If you don't want to 'fess up entirely publicly, anonymous posting has always been turned on, and I'll even turn off the associated IP logging for this post.

Nope, I've no one like that of either/any gender.

One? People have just one? Christ, I've got enough for any four of us.

Off the top of my head, there's an ex-stripper, a Jen, a teen-aged mother and a Romance The Never Was. I only miss them at moments, usually moments of dis-satisfaction with my life or loniliness. But, then, I'd drive over my Grandmother to go just about anywhere, even if it took me out of my way. I think that says more about my family relationships than my romantic past, though.

It's also possible that I'm dating one of those girls right now, but in a LRD/poly context, and so it's much safer...

Also, "The Gun Seller?" We have it. I haven't gotten around to reading it yet, but Mrs. Quinn loves it.

No, I don't.

I might have once, but I'm not sure. There have been women I was madly, stupidly, insanely interested in, at the time (some of which were requited) and might have been that stupid about (hell, a couple of them I was), but afterwards, not so much.

Kim, well there was a year or so when I'd've walked barefoot across a desert for her, but I was young and stupid; unwise in the ways of women.

She fixed a lot of that, and I got my revenge eleven years later.

There are people (Kate, Liz, Megan) for whom I've felt a deep longing for some time after about after we stopped seeing each other, although I don't know that I'd call any of them "deeply dangerous". Wild, yes, winsome, to some degree; can't possibly live with? Hmmm. Yeah, at least in Liz's case; we drove each other crazy quite often when we lived together, and only some of that was teh resutl of the nasty mind games that her other partner was playing with her.

No one I feel that way about now, though (perhaps thankfully).

[as an aside, did you know that [livejournal.com profile] greeniezona is the sister of Bookslut's editor-in-chief?]

There was one deeply dangerous guy when I was in college, but he's long out of the picture.

Yeah. In spades. The secret dark OCD side of my personality abets this fiendishly. Gaaaaaah.

I have two: one blonde, one with curly raven-black hair.

I'd love to see either of them again.
