Date: 2005-08-30 12:17 am (UTC)Lots of people, like my friend
Yet all the news stories imply that people are "choosing" to stay.
There IS no evacuation plan for people who don't have their own vehicles. The Superdome IS the plan. This is classism in action, people....if you don't have enough money to have a car, or don't drive for whatever reason, you can just die.

Date: 2005-08-30 12:49 am (UTC)As to these particular guys, who are the ones I was referring to specifically: I could be wrong, but it seems highly unlikely to me that these two boys had no other option available but to wander around outside in the middle of a damn hurricane rather than taking shelter someplace. I wasn't talking about people who couldn't get out of the city for whatever reason and are taking all reasonable precautions that they can to make sure they make it through the storm intact rather than actively putting themselves in harm's way for the hell of it as these two guys certainly look to be doing.
And yeah, there are people staying put because they choose to, but I'm sure it's not nearly in the numbers that the news stories are making it seem.
