geekchick: (mmm...sushi)

I had a very nice evening out with [livejournal.com profile] brian1789, in which he [edit: claims to have ;)] had fondue for the first time ever. *boggle* I'm not sure how one manages to avoid even chocolate fondue for that long. At any rate, we found The Melting Pot, ate lots of melted swiss cheese and what seemed like even more meat and seafood, and now I think I'm done eating for the week. I'm so stuffed that even [livejournal.com profile] pecunium's food porn doesn't cause me to salivate right at the moment. Plus, it was late enough and quiet enough there that we could actually hear each other talk, which is always a plus. I think perhaps I might curl up in bed with my current crochet project or a book and see how long it takes me to fall asleep.

I am glad to hear that you had a nice evening out, but I beg to differ with [livejournal.com profile] brian1789's recollection. I've seen him eat fondue at a party hosted by [livejournal.com profile] danaeris. I don't recall if he ate both cheese and chocolate, or only the raspberry chocolate.

better and not. Better because it doesn't seem to be appendicitis, but right now, i am counting the minutes until I can take more pain pills. And I am definitely fuzzy-headed and sleepy (inside of the head is fuzzy. The outside is always fuzzy). My temperature was up again. Whimper.

thanks for asking

By any chance, could it be a ruptured ovarian cyst? The first one of those I had was mistaken for appendicitis, and I ended up having surgery to remove my appendix. Of course, this was 12-odd years ago, which is how I ended up in surgery anyway.

Either way, hope you feel better.

I have no idea. Thank you for the suggestion; I will do some research.

apparently not...I'm on BCP. But it is always good to rule something out.

My first one was also when I was on BCP. But I also have PCOS, so my hormones have always been screwed up.

The best way for them to check if it's a cyst is an ultrasound, if the pain continues and you want them to positively rule it out.

They did mention an ultrasound as a possibilty if the lab work doesn't turn up anything, and the Cipro doesn't knock out whatever it is.

If I recall correctly, when mine have ruptured it was always a very sudden onset, and very very painful. The fever was generally a response to the rupture, but I never actually had an infection, although my white count was elevated. The only real treatment for them once they rupture is painkillers, so if what you have is a ruptured cyst, you're on the treatment plan. A heating pad might help.

No matter what it is, I hope you get some relief soon. And that they figure out what's causing it, so it can be prevented.

thank you SO much.

It delights me that a total stranger is willing to help me with information and support. Thank you.

If you're taking opiates for the pain, you may find that dextromethorphan (DXM) increases the effects and/or makes them last longer. DXM is available OTC in various cough medicines such as robitussin. It may or may not help, but it's basically harmless to try. This combination has been studied a bit as a way to let people use less painkillers, and it seems to work ok unless you have really severe pain like major burns or bone cancer. The only catch is you may need to take several doses worth of DXM at once to get a noticable improvement.

If you do try it, please let me know how it goes. I looked into this combo recently for a friend of mine who uses opiates for chronic pain, but is trying to find ways to use less of them. The research on the combination looks hopeful, though the studies I found typically used DXM doses of 60-100mg or more. I think cough syrup has maybe 10-15mg per dose, iirc.

There was fondue present at that party, but I didn't have any. Unless you fed me a piece of something coated in chocolate, yourself...

I remember you having the chocolate. I licked some of it off of your finger. I remember you commenting on the chocolate being yummy, and I remember being surprised by whatever it was that you were dipping into the chocolate-- could it have been bread?

but you know, if you have strong memories otherwise, right now, I'm inclined to accept your recall, given that I am In Pain. 3 minutes...time to get Drugs!

(hugs)

You're right, I remember dipping a pear slice into a bowl of warm chocolate stuff, with my fingers.

(nod) it was on the stove at the time, rather than in the fondue pot. And I think the other folks were using the pears with cheeses of the sort you don't eat, so you may have been the only one to combine the raspberry chocolate fondue with pear. Glad to know I'm able to remember something correctly.

101.9, so the hug is appreciated.

ugh, I hope that that falls soon. (more hugs)

In any case, tonight with Cathy was the first time I had something that I dipped in cheese with little forks ;).

I heartily enjoy that you have non-me sweeties to enjoy that with.

Fondue: a shared meal that could send both of us scurrying away from the table rapidly, between my love for mushrooms combined with swiss cheese, and your fondness for meat.

Dan and I never had fondue until about 5 years ago when we had cheese fondue in Paris. I think it was the only "traditional french" meal we ate in the time we were there.

There are some locations of The Melting Pot around here. We should go sometime - you could come too :-)
