I have to say that I really like the "wish list" meme that's going around. I'm probably not participating myself since I can't think of much that I really need or want that's remotely possible, although if anyone has a transporter or some easy way to fix it so that a high percentage of the folks I deeply care about aren't at least 500 miles or two time zones away from me, I'd be ever so grateful. I like that some of my LJ friends are participating though; I truly enjoy giving people gifts, and this is a good way to find out if there's something it's in my power to provide. I don't like to confine gifts to just the "officially sanctioned gift-giving holidays", and it's not necessarily (and usually isn't) anything big; for example from time to time I may flit around and randomly add time to people's paid LJ accounts or their Starbucks cards or something else along those lines. From my perspective it's not really all that much, but I have the means to do it right now, I like doing it and I hope it helps make someone happy for a little while.

Hm, maybe I will sort of participate after all. I have plenty of stuff, honestly, but if you feel so inspired you might consider making a donation to one of these organizations:
* Best Friends Animal Sanctuary
* World Wildlife Fund
* National Wildlife Federation
* Habitat for Humanity
* ACLU
* Heifer International
* Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation
* Planned Parenthood

I forgot to mention that I met [livejournal.com profile] tafkar on Sunday, since she graciously agreed to adopt the Fluevog boots that had been sitting sad and lonely in my closet because they didn't really fit me. I should make mention here for those of you who haven't met her yet that [livejournal.com profile] tafkar is teh hawt, and you're all jealous that you didn't get to spend some time last weekend sitting around a table yakking with her and some of her friends and I did. ;) (And as a gratuitous plug, if you haven't done so yet you should all go join [livejournal.com profile] nikkinewsnet, which is a faboo community dedicated to posting a wide variety of links to news stories from around the globe.)

I'm amused at what just showed up in my mailbox earlier this week. The articles include:
"Structure and Evolution of Blogspace", 'Why We Blog", "Semantic Blogging and Decentralized Knowledge Management", "How Blogging Software Reshapes the Online Community" and "Democracy and Filtering". I've only really skimmed the issue so far, so no commentary from me on the articles other than that the "Why We Blog" doesn't appear to contain any earth-shattering revelations. If you've got an ACM membership the articles are in the Portal, I don't know if they're going to be available online otherwise as part of the "free issue" or not.

Is it just me, or is there a tinge of irony in this dead-tree publication?

Seeble! Sometime I just get into self-absorbed ruts, though, and will go for months without thinking to do anything.

Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation

I'll have to check that one out. DKA Productions has a Super Seekrit Projekt in the planning stages for which I'm looking for an appropriate charity. You'll probably hear more later. ;-)

Yay! Thank you both for meeting up with me (for lo, it was much fun), for the boots, and for pimping out NNN!
