Mmmm, smelly

My BPAL order showed up today, woo! I did apparently get my order placed in time to get the limited edition "All Saints'". "Based on a venerable French pontifical incense blend: monastic frankincense and myrrh, Damascus rose, Russian gardenia, cassia, and lily of the valley wafting on a chill Autumn wind. A celebration of the glory and suffering of the saints and martyrs of the Church." I didn't like it in the bottle, but it's definitely growing on me now that it's on. I smell like a Catholic church, all incense-y with some faint floral notes. Hm, as it dries down, the sweet scents are becoming more noticeable. One of the folks in the community mentioned jokingly that it had a bit of an aphrodisiac effect on her husband; I can kinda see that. Did I mention this stuff smells yummy?
I also got a six-imp sampler, with Harlot, Old Morocco, Black Forest, Circe, Morgause, and Libertine. So far Old Morocco smells wonderful in the container, I hope it smells as good on. I think I'm going to like Circe a lot too, assuming it doesn't change too drastically when worn. Not sure about Libertine quite yet (" Rosewood and chamomile with bergamot, violet, red sandalwood, primrose and Arabian musk."), although since I just spilled some of it on my sweater I guess I'll decide soon enough. Oops. It's a little overpowering at first, I hope it fades a bit. Morgause ("five night-blooming flowers deepened by dusky violet, purple fruits and the barest breath of medieval incenses") smells nice in the bottle, but I'm thinking it may not smell so good on me. We'll see.
As a bonus, they threw in six additional imps: Cathedral, Maiden, Lampades, Queen Gertrude, Fae and Seraphim. Cathedral is pretty incense-y too, that's definitely going to stay on the "keep" pile. I'm not terribly fond of Fae ("white musk, bergamot, heliotrope, peach and oakmoss") in the bottle, and Seraphim ("calla lily, wisteria, white sandalwood, Damascus rose and frankincense") seems a bit cloying. I'll try wearing them both before final judgement. Queen Gertrude is one of the ones I debated ordering ("Imperial violet softened by wisteria and chrysanthemum, but edged with the regal iciness of delphinium."). Mmm, violets! Good at first sniff. Lampades ("cranberry with smoky dark lilies, heady, sensual musk, a tingle of ginger and a brush of Mediterranean spices") is another one I'm going to reserve judgement on until I can wear it, but not completely enamored of it in the bottle.
PS - Al, your CDs showed up today. I'll get your package out to you on Friday.
