(Now, that totally depends on who you ask, as I know a few people who might consider that a good basis for a sacred rite, but mostly yeah.) I don't normally care much for Bill Maher, but this time he gets it right. Go, Bill.

In riba_rambles, Lis points to some stellar exchanges in the daily press briefing where Scott McClellan got to deal with questions about the president's flip-flop on whether marriage was a state issue or not (and by "deal with", I of course mean "totally fail to answer the question") and how exactly Bush expected society to break down if same-sex couples were allowed to marry. Who knew the press briefings could be so much fun? (No, really.)

Kerry has stood up to Bush on the gay marriage issue, but I'm of mixed emotions about what he said. On the one hand, I think he rightly points out that Bush is using the issue as a distraction during campaigning season, but I wish he'd have the balls to get over the "civil union" tiptoeing and just come out in favor of gay marriage!

I believe Kerry's already said that he is not in favor of gay marriage, but a Constitutional amendment is not appropriate. ("Kerry's gay-marriage stands spotlighted")

This is a shame. The Onion article is clearly avoiding the real controversy. According to Massachusetts State Law, the Gay Marriage Licenses are not lifetime applicable--you are forced to renew every year, after you pay the fee. I was hoping I could avoid this by marrying out of state, until I ran across the "Gay Use Clause".

That press briefing is truly a thing of wonder and awe. Surely McClellan must be embarrassed and ashamed at having to get up there and look like such a fool as he evades question after question.
