So, I can get a 4GB
iPod mini for $249, or I can get a 15GB iPod for $50 more. What exactly would my incentive be to buy the smaller one again, other than a shiny blue case? Makes no sense to me at all, but I bet they sell a whole bunch of 'em anyway. It
is awfully cute.

Date: 2004-01-06 02:31 pm (UTC)1) It might be physically smaller and therefore more convenient to carry around in a pocket.
2) 4GB might be more disk space than that person could plausibly use (I'm not sure how big MP3 files generally are -- what can I say -- I actually follow evil empireTM guidelines on copyright).
Re: Possible Advantages of the Smaller One
Date: 2004-01-06 02:52 pm (UTC)It is smaller, indeed. It's not an incentive to me personally, as I don't find the standard iPod to be particularly bulky. If there was more of a price difference between the 4GB and the 15GB model, I'd understand the pricing logic; as it is, I don't get why I'd want 1/4 of the disk for something close to the same price.

You do realize there are many, many perfectly legal MP3s, right? Ferinstance, my completely legally purchased music from Emusic comes in MP3 format. Size-wise, the new one they say is roughly 1000 songs using average-quality encoding. I'm not a good person to ask about whether someone might consider that an impossibly large number of songs, as I think you've seen our two dining room walls full of CDs. ;) I have way more than 1000 songs (copies of CDs I own, or music purchased from the iTunes store or Emusic) just on my laptop at the moment, and it's nowhere near even close to my entire collection.
Dude, That is freaking cool!!!
