Today is Sweetmorn, day 20 in the season of Confusion, 3269.

1. What brings you joy?

Music. Accomplishing or creating something that I can be proud of. Knowing that places like this exist, even if I never manage to see them in person. Touch (within a certain framework, i.e. not coming from total strangers). Feeling loved and valued.

2. You can change one aspect of society. What and why?

I think if I could, I'd make everyone more accepting of others who aren't following the same path. If everyone could get past the "you're WRONG, you're EVIL, and you need to live according to MY belief system" mentality regarding those who don't share our religious beliefs/sexual orientation/ideas on monogamy or lack thereof/favorite political party/blah blah blah (with the disclaimer of course that I'm talking about personal choices that really don't hurt anyone else) and stop trying to shove their beliefs down the throats of everyone who doesn't happen to already share them, I think life would be more pleasant all around. Really, who gets hurt just because two women want to get married, or because that guy over there happens to like both women and men, or because someone wants to be in committed relationships with more than one person at the same time? What's so threatening about any of that?

3. What is your favorite part about the area in which you live, and why?

Hm, lots of things I like actually. Some of the big ones: I love that we have the resources of the Smithsonian right here and available to us for free. I like that if I drive a couple of hours in one direction, I'm in the mountains, and if I drive a few hours in another direction, I'm at the beach. I like that I live near a major airport and close to the Northeast Corridor rail line, which makes getting elsewhere if I so choose relatively painless.

4. What's one thing that you have never done that you would be perfectly happy never to do in this lifetime?

Have major surgery.

5. When is the best time of year to visit the DC area? :-)

I would generally myself avoid January and August, just because those tend to be the months of temperature extremes. Springtime is nice; if you can stand the crowds, the cherry trees in full bloom on the Mall are spectacular. Fall makes for some nice opportunities to head out west and see the foliage, plus it's cooling off a bit and the city isn't as crowded with tourists as it is in the summer. Summer is really good for people-watching in the city, but it does get very humid. Winter is either very mild or absolutely suckful, and not the best time to be in DC I don't think
