From the orbiter’s flight deck, as a sunset overtook the view, [Kalpana Chawla] began to see her own reflection in the overhead windows, along with the bright and dark sides of the Earth.

"In the retina of my eye, the whole Earth and the sky could be seen reflected," she said Wednesday. "So I called all the crew members one by one, and they saw it, and everybody said, ‘Oh, wow!’"
