Today is Pungenday, day 28 in the season of Chaos, 3269.

I survived San Jose, although I somehow managed to simultaneously overbook myself socially to the point of near burn-out (normally would've been fine, except for also having work-related social committments every evening) and not see everyone I would've liked to. (I'm sorry, [livejournal.com profile] rmjwell, can we try for hot monkey coffee some other time?) Got in Saturday afternoon, where [livejournal.com profile] brian1789 and the kidlets picked me up at the airport. The kidlets are a lot of fun, the oldest is just hysterically funny, and they were all quite friendly and sweet to me (the youngest gave me a medal as a "souvenir of my visit" with them, it made me go "awwwwww"). Of course I can say that they're lots of fun because for me they were givebacks. ;) That evening I was dropped off in Monterey, and the next morning/afternoon got a fabulous drive down Big Sur for a bit and then back up to San Jose. After checking in at the hotel and spending a good while catching up to my coworkers who'd come in Friday night, went back out to Mountain View to have an amusingly symmetrical dinner with [livejournal.com profile] brian1789, [livejournal.com profile] patgreene, [livejournal.com profile] hopeforyou, [livejournal.com profile] sinboy, and [livejournal.com profile] clairade.

Fair amount of issues during the week work-wise, but nothing totally out of control (so far as I knew). Spent the week stressing about my presentation on Wednesday, but I think it went relatively well. Got some very useful feedback, which will help quite a lot in finalizing designs. At dinner on Wed. night I got presented with an award, and the president got to tell the story of how when he saw my resume, which read "Server Wrangler", he first thought I meant wrangler in the context of "someone graduating with a first class degree in Mathematics from Cambridge University". Ahh, the irony. ;) (<Barbie>Math is hard!</Barbie>) Thursday I had dinner at Zucca again with my coworkers, some of the member company reps, and [livejournal.com profile] brian1789; [livejournal.com profile] patgreene stopped by briefly, which was nice. =) We went to Zucca because I'd told K. about the faboo vanilla creme brulee there (her favorite dessert), but it seems that just a day or two before they'd changed the recipe to be white chocolate rather than vanilla, which was disappointing to K. Somewhat more disturbingly, they'd added mushrooms to the cheese tortellini and neglected to mention it on the menu or to the waiter; luckily Brian didn't eat the mushroom he found unexpectedly in his food. Disappointing, as otherwise the food was really good.

Friday my coworkers left at something like 5:30 am, I slept in for the first time that week (til 9:30!), then went to get a tour of [livejournal.com profile] brian1789's place of employment. As an extra bonus, I got to take a marsh walk with [livejournal.com profile] hopeforyou and spend some time talking with her, which was really nice. =) Then came the mad dash to the airport to meet C. He and I mostly chilled on Friday night, as he'd gotten up early and been on a plane all day. Saturday we went to Fry's (because we had to, since we don't have them here) and then to Berkeley to blow lots of cash at Amoeba (which we managed pretty successfully). Randomly, we ran into S. at Amoeba, and went back to talk with him and K. and then have dinner. Didn't manage to get a drive down the coast to try out the brand new Mitsubishi Lancer that we'd rented, unfortunately. Then up at the crack of dawn on Sunday for a 9:15 am flight back. Got back just in time for it to start snowing here right as we walked off the plane, joy.

C. has gone to Savannah for the week, starting today, so I have the house to myself this week. I plan to do some housecleaning, and I'm going to take a comp day on Friday to do a whole lot of nothing. =) Tonight, I've got season 3 Buffy, the third Harry Potter book, new bath salts and a bath brush, and a new-to-me multi-disc Rush CD. I plan to put clean sheets on the bed, take a bath, then crawl into bed to watch either a little Buffy or else "Lupin the 3rd" and "InuYasha". Not nearly enough sleep after having to get up at 7 to take C. to the airport today, so an early-ish bedtime for me I think. (And by the way, have I mentioned: "Ooooooooh, neat!"?)

Oh, and thanks muchly to [livejournal.com profile] anotheranon for coming over to take care of my furbaby over the weekend, 'tis greatly appreciated.
