Today is Pungenday, day 71 in the season of The Aftermath, 3268.

Today's horrifying musical exchange (and it's not even my music this time!):

  • C. puts a new CD on, by someone called DJ Sammy, and bleepy dance track commences
  • GC catches lyrics: "Oh - thinkin' about all our younger years/There was only you and me/We were young and wild and free"
  • GC: "Uhhh...they're not really covering Canadian rocker Bryan Adams, are they?"
  • C: Yes indeed.
  • GC: *twitch*
  • C. skips a track or two, yet more bleepy dance music, good beat, I can dance to it, I give it a 7 -- until the vocals kick in: "Nobody on the road/Nobody on the beach/I feel it in the air/The summer's out of reach/Empty lake, empty streets/The sun goes down alone/I'm drivin' by your house/Though I know you're not home"
  • GC: "Jesus Christ. It's like 'Don Henley meets 'A Night at the Roxbury''"

El Condor Pasa. El. Condor. Pasa. We are talking the Simon & Garfunkel sang based on an Andean folk tune, right? *shudder*

I take it you haven't heard the remix of the game show theme song for "The Price Is Right" set to lyrics of "Why don't you come on down and party with me"? There be some really strange dance mix shiite out there now...

But nothing quite compares with the Benzadrine Monks' cover of "Smells Like Teen Spirit."

OOH, I heard the German Rubber Ducky song last night for the first time. I wish I knew who it was, so I could take it down to the local dance club and demand they get my groove on, dammit!

I think I'll take a pass on the lounge version of "Aqualung", but where can I get a copy of that German dance remix of rubber duckie?

One part of me wants to pretend that I didn't read this, that there is NO SUCH THING as techno covers of Don Henley...

The other part of this can't help but think that this simply MUST be as sickeningly touched as Johnny Cash covering Nine Inch Nails.

Mp3s, anywhere?

ya know, when I first heard "Heaven", I thought, oh, bloody hell. But I was willing to let it pass. Until I heard "Boys of Summer" and realized it was the SAME CHICK. The hell you say! Is originality really dead?

You do realize, now that I've read your message and the subsequent thread, that I've had to go out and buy a few more CD's, yes?

Come to the UK, and you will hear compositions of even greater horror than that you describe, strange ulalations like to rob one of your sanity....

like the techno remix of "I am," by Neal Diamond, that BBC2 was playing the other day.

"I am, I cried, to no one there and no one heard, not even the chair!" THen begins the trip-hop unka-chunka music....
