Yesterday was much fun. E. and her friend H. and I did an early dinner in Georgetown followed by a trip to Jinx Proof so E. could get her navel pierced and then a stop by FAO Schwartz to load up on Hello Kitty stuff. I managed to come out of it without new metal (I really want an industrial, but for some reason I'm totally wimping out about getting it done). I think I might go back and get a second nostril piercing instead if the placement can be done right. Even more than the piercings though I'm jonesing for some new ink, an art nouveau style wrist piece. I've got the basic idea, just have to find someone local who can do the work.

After dinner/shopping/etc., we headed downtown to the Mall to watch "Forbidden Planet" at the Screen on the Green event. I think if I ever hear another theremin in my life, it will be too soon. =) We met up with S. and C. and got there early enough to snag one of the few spots that wasn't a mud puddle. Lots of MST3K-style commentary all around. =) E. suggested doing it again next week for "North by Northwest"; hopefully it will be a little bit less soggy this time. In addition to the movie, we were treated to a gorgeous light show; there was a quite impressive display of cloud-to-cloud lightning to the north and east, and the sunset to the west which turned the clouds and the marble buildings a gorgeous shade of rose. We even managed to avoid getting rained on until we were headed home, which was a pleasant surprise. It was a nice, mellow evening of being social and hanging out with folks...should have more of those.
