In the seven years I've lived in this area, it wasn't until a couple of months ago that I realized there was a park with several miles of trail literally across the street. (In my defense, it's not really marked as such and the trail descends below (major, busy) road level pretty much immediately.) I decided today that I was tired of cleaning the kitchen and that it would be a fine time to go check it out, so I dragged [livejournal.com profile] nminusone out of the house for a walk. Unfortunately it was around 8 by the time we started, so we didn't get to go all that far; looking at the map, it looks like we got not quite a quarter of the way through before it got dark enough that we turned back. The part we walked is a flat, easy, mostly-gravel path running along Rocky Run. It was a nice little expedition, although I'd have liked it even more if it wasn't getting dark enough that it was hard to see much. The path is well shaded, so I think I'll try again next weekend during the day and try the seven-mile round trip. As a bonus, I got an answer to a question I'd been wondering about earlier today, that being whether or not there were any public pools in the area.

Easily-distractible girl's next move:

vim C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\etc\hosts
shift+i

:q! (Let's try that one again, shall we?)

Translation: starting right about now, please don't assume I've read any LJ posts made between roughly 8:30 AM and 6:30 PM for the next week at least. Will try to catch up when I get home in the evenings, but I really, really have to try minimizing distractions at work until I finish up a couple of projects.

[Posted via email, hopefully this works as advertised.]

DC Restaurant Week is coming up soon. There are a couple of places I'd like to check out if I can get reservations; anyone interested in trying to get one or more dinner reservations? Potential interest on first glance at the list:

Butterfield 9
Corduroy (based on DCFoodies reviews)
Filomena (have been here before)
Indique (perhaps)
Rasika
Red Sage (maybe)
Sette Bello
TenPenh
Vegetate
Vidalia
Zaytinya (have been here a few times before, but would happily go again)

I suspect I could come up with other choices once I have time to
really look at the list.
