I suspect a lot of people I know would enjoy this community:

I got off to a really good start, and then my momentum disappeared in the last week and a half or so. Finished:

  • The Stupidest Angel: A Heartwarming Tale of Christmas Terror, Christopher Moore. Hysterical, as always, with lots of characters who should look familiar to anyone who's read his earlier work. There's Santa taking a shovel to the head and the resulting trauma for the boy who witnesses it, the titular dim bulb of an angel, a Warrior Babe unfortunately off her meds at the moment, a fruit bat, and the one thing no good holiday tale is complete without: brain-eating zombies. Go read this, then go read the book.
  • Aphrodite: A Memoir of the Senses, Isabel Allende. A lovely mix of thoughts on food and sensuality, complete with recipes. What's not to love? Well, okay, maybe her writing style here could possibly maybe a little bit annoy readers after a while.
  • America (The Book): A Citizen's Guide to Democracy Inaction, Jon Stewart/The Daily Show. I have to admit that towards the end I was skimming a bit. It's funny, but I think it works better in small bits than trying to read it straight through.

I started in on Hillary Rodham Clinton's Living History, but I have to confess that so far (which isn't all that far), I just can't make myself care. I'd imagine it will get more compelling later on (I hope, anyway), but it's just not working for me quite yet. And I like Hillary, so that's not the problem. I may finish this, I may drop it and move on to Fantastic Voyage by Ray Kurzweil.

I've been reminded often in the last several days that some people utterly fail to suck. I count myself lucky to know some pretty wonderful people. Strategic cope reserves are being refilled thanks in large part to them.

[We will return to the regularly-scheduled Monday ranting after these commercial messages.]

Bwahahahaha! This... Oh, this is a thing of beauty. [livejournal.com profile] curiousangel? [livejournal.com profile] madbodger? Y'all might have presents coming. ;) No, no; no need to thank me. I'm tempted to inflict it on present it to another dear friend just so I could hear the reaction from all the way over here. Actually, said dear friend who shall remain nameless (but you know who you are), I dare you to review it. :-D

Click on through to the site and read the reviews. "Is this sic humor?" *snort* Yes, indeed.
