(no subject)

I'm back. Good god, I will never take another red-eye in coach ever again. Why on earth was that flight completely full?? (At least I got to see an incredible lightning storm; if I have to be awake and in the middle seat on the plane, *something* good should come out of it.) At some point I'll sleep, and then I'll try to catch up on email/lj stuff; if there's anything in particular you think I should see quickly, please send me a pointer.

Good trip, excellent surprise party; it was worth the trip out on America West just to see the expression on brian1789's face when he realized that I wasn't, in fact, in Boston. (Which is why I screened responses to an earlier comment, didn't want anyone to spill the beans that I was going to be anywhere other than where I said I was. ;))

First off, I apologize to those of you in the SF Bay area who I didn't let know I was going to be out there (which would be pretty much everyone except for patgreene); the trip had to stay a secret, and I wanted to spend some time with C. that wasn't completely booked up with social obligations. I promise that next time I'll let more (i.e. "any") folks know I'm in the area.

We headed out on Wednesday, which was an adventure. Flying out of Dulles on a summer afternoon is often guaranteed to include a weather delay due to thunderstorms, but this time we got tornado warnings as well. The flight was more than an hour delayed getting in from Phoenix, although it was still listed as "on time" on the departures board even half an hour after we were supposed to be in the air. Folks who pay attention know that I don't have a lot of use for folks who rant and rave about having to deal with the fact that there are children in public spaces, but that hour and a half in the waiting area tried my patience beyond belief. ( Rant ahoy! )

Anyway. Once we got going, the flights were fine. We missed our connection in Phoenix, but they had boarding passes waiting for us on the next flight. We got in to San Jose around 11:30, got our car, headed to the hotel and promptly passed out.
