she's crafty
Nov. 6th, 2003 08:36 pmToday is Setting Orange, day 18 in the season of The Aftermath, 3269.
While my brain understands what I need to do to knit, my hands still haven't gotten the entire memo yet. I got casting on pretty quickly, but it was downhill from there. I have temporarily conceded defeat and moved on to teaching myself to crochet. This, I seem to be picking up more quickly. My grandmother taught me some of the basics decades ago, but I had never gotten back into it. I have a skein of burgundy worsted-weight yarn to practice on, and several skeins of Homespun that I want to use for an afghan. (I did a row of chain stitch with it last night to see how easy to work with it was going to be, and it seems that until I get a little more practice the answer is "not". The pattern also calls for a size Q hook, which I don't have yet.) I'm dying to make something out of the Fun Fur yarn too. Oooh, fuzzy! It feels good to be doing something that doesn't involve sitting in front of a computer for 16 hours a day again.
For some reason, it just seems odd to be sitting on the sofa crocheting while listening to Kiss (the band, not the Tom Jones cover of the Prince song). I don't know why that is. ;)
