Mar. 10th, 2002 09:44 pmToday's been only slightly productive. Cleaned out some of the office and installed a bunch of hardware in my computer, go me! I'm still coughing from all the dust kicked up from the bookshelf and the inside of the computer case. Cleaning the file cabinet unearthed a gift certificate for a massage which apparently expired 6 months ago and a small gift certificate type thing for www.x-tra.de as a result of them not being able to get the skirt I ordered long ago. I shall try very hard to not use it right now, no matter how much I want this, as I am still debating whether my buyer's remorse after ordering the laptop is severe enough to cause me to cancel the order until after we're both employed again. And even if not for the paying $1800+ in rent alone, I keep thinking that I should save up that $1400+ I'll be paying for the laptop and put it to a vacation fund for going to follow the Oysterband around for a week again this year. We'll see; I can cancel any time up until I actually pick it up, so I have some time to reflect (although reflecting until today cost me the extra $150 off that was on the site yesterday).
I eventually got to the point with another ex where hearing how happy someone else is making them didn't make my stomach knot up, so I have no reason to think that I won't get there with the most recent ex at some point. Too bad it took almost a year to get to that point with S., and I'm just going on a couple of months with the other one. =/ (See, CM, I told you that it doesn't go away just because I'm poly. *smile*)
The exchange with
brian1789 about going back to school in something I actually enjoy has got me seriously thinking. Unfortunately what sounds fun to me requires enough math that I'm not sure if I can actually manage it while still working. (Math is not my strong point, and while I think that I could probably pass with some tutoring from C. (who actually understands that stuff), it would take a lot of work on my part and I don't know if I'd have the time to do all that work if I also have a full-time job.) Unfortunately I don't think I'll be in a position to not work full-time again for a very long time, since I just spent two years doing that. Foresight is not high up on my list of strengths, I suppose, or else I'd have looked into school full-time when I still had the money to do it.

As far as the massage gift cert, I'd phone them up and see if they'll still honor it. They just might. I once rushed to get to Ticketmaster to try to use a gift cert, and they told me that they'd have honored it past its due date.

Date: 2002-03-11 06:12 am (UTC)I was thinking that I might try to wheedle the gym into taking the gift certificate if I'm willing to make up the difference in cost (their prices have gone up, sadly). Worst they can say is "no", and then I'm in exactly the same spot I am right now.

I bet I'd have a better shot at getting my company to let me indulge in this if I could somehow relate it to my job. Hmm.... Hey, I found relevance!
http://www.spec.org/osg/cpu2000/CFP2000/183.equake/docs/183.equake.html I can, um, write more programs for the benchmark suites. Yeah, that's my reasoning. Think it will work? *snicker*

Date: 2002-03-11 10:36 pm (UTC)Write finite-element earthquake vibration sims as benchmarks? Fun, and you might even be able to pull it off -- once *).
