[I'm about to horrify several people with this admission.]

For all the random and varied stuff I listen to, the best music for flying down the highway at 80 with the sunroof open is good ol' southern rock. Put on some Lynyrd Skynyrd (No, not "Freebird", and to the nice folks on Limewire, the Dave Matthews Band track "Sweet Home Alabama" is not an Allman Brothers cover, sheesh! Heathens.), some *actual* Allman Brothers, some James Gang, Steve Earle, a little Black Crowes, crank up "Slow Ride" to 11, and pick a part in "Black Water" to sing at the top of your lungs. Got to indulge in a little bit of that today, it's too bad most of this particularly gorgeous day was spent inside the office.

you may horrify some with this admission, but i doubt that you will find many who will actually disagree with you. the "horrified" ones simply lack the guts to actually come out and say so themselves.

i am not one of them.

for long distance drives, i tend to break out the wagnerian operas. admittedly, i'm probably the only person for whom this is true, but i get so absorbed in them that the time spent listening to them goes by like that. and, since wagner writes operas that last for days on end....

of course i'm a madman, so that should be taken into account.

usually tristan und isolde gets me from here to new jersey (family beach house). i probably wouldn't make it to boston on the ring because i'd probably not be driving alone, and other occupants of the car would riot after the first act of die walkuere if not sooner.

Hey, I don't think it's shameful. I rather like a lot of country- and blues-inflected rock. Sometimes I even like out-and-out country (not enough to listen to the country music stations, but there's some good stuff out there.) I really dig old-timey and bluegrass, too. Did you see O Brother, Where Art Thou? What a fantastic soundtrack!

Agreed pretty much... three days ago I burned a "road" CD with some Allman Brothers, sometimes it feels like "Ramblin' Man" should be my themesong (given travel, and being raised in Georgia ;-).

Except... make it 90...
