[Somehow this seems to have accidentally gotten marked as restricted, oops. Thanks to B. for pointing that out.]
Today is Setting Orange, day 55 in the season of Chaos, 3168.
Chris and I trekked downtown last night to go see Janeane Garofalo. I *heart* Janeane, but oddly I thought the opening act was more consistently funny. I suppose Chris is right that the opening act's set isn't as long so it's easier to be consistently funny. Some of my favorites:
"I went to this show and the guard was like 'Sir, I'll need to take the chain wallet. And the belt. And while you're at it, why don't you hand me the necklace too.' 'Oh, is this because of the heightened security measures after Sept. 11?" 'No, it's because you're 38.'" [followed by a discussion of whether or not 38 is too old to rock, and the scary old guys you'd see at concerts when you were 16]
"Dee Snyder is old and ugly and not a rock star." [after someone yelled out that Dee Snyder wasn't a tiny, skinny little man (one of the prerequisites to being a rock star)]
"This is my opinion, and I only say this because I have a microphone and a room full of people, but...F*CK CREED!"
And I think I'm going to get some mileage out of Janeane's "WWJD? When Would Jesus Drink?" There were also some snarky comments made about the woman who kept yelling things out and was obviously drunk. Come to think of it, I think it might've been the Dee Snyder woman. I'm not sure if she was one of the ones who were talking loud enough that Janeane stopped and said "I'm not sure if they're talking to each other, or to me." They were in fact talking to each other, just loud enough that the entire theater could hear them Oops. Gotta love hanging out at the bar until showtime, apparently.

Date: 2002-02-24 10:01 pm (UTC)Nah, I don't think so. There are plenty of people who are "too old to rock" at 22. ;) He was talking about how when you were 16 and at a Judas Priest show you'd get freaked out by seeing someone old enough to be your dad there, and how now he is that guy and isn't sure when it happened.
And Creed... well, better left unsaid.
Hey, if people like Creed (and apparently lots of them do, as they're like the number one band in the country these days), more power to them. I personally can't take more than three minutes of them at a time and think the lead singer is in desperate need of a sense of humor implant from what I've seen in an interview or two, but that's just me.
