Dec. 7th, 2011 07:20 amSleep: why can't I haz it? I went to bed between 12:30 and 1 or so, slept until about 5, and have been awake ever since. I'm finally starting to feel like I might be able to go back to sleep, except my alarm is set to go off in 45 minutes. :-P Add to this the fact that it's cold, dark, and rainy and will be all day, and I think I can fairly accurately predict that today's gonna suck pretty hard. Please don't ask me to do anything today that involves anything more than the most basic mental exercises.

Date: 2011-12-09 01:14 am (UTC)I realized that the problem got much worse when a Subway restaurant opened very close to where I was working, and my co-workers and I would go there about twice a week. I started paying attention to what I ordered there and how well I slept. There seemed to be a correlation. I noticed that one thing I always had on my sandwich, no matter what sandwich I got, was parmesan cheese, so I decided to stop having that. My sleep improved relatively quickly. After some more experiments, I learned that eating parmesan cheese would pretty much guarantee that I would wake up in the middle of the night for the next 3 days.
Later, I found that romano cheese would have a similar effect for 1 day, as would nutmeg for 1 day.
Summary: don't rule out food as a possible cause.
