Oh yeah, they were local apples. They were kind of expensive though ($2.75 would've gotten at most a pound and a half), and the vendor I was looking at was out of Honeycrisp. At those prices, it was about the same as buying the locally-grown stuff at Wegmans.
There are a few good-sized farmers markets on the weekends here; Burke is on Saturday and the Dupont Circle (DC) market is on Sunday. Burke ended up being much closer to local than I thought it was; it turned out to only be about 15 minutes away.
