Since the Lemon Boy tomatoes are gone, looks like the rodents have moved on to stripping the cherry tomato plant. I'm beginning to see the appeal of squirrel catapults.
If it's any consolation, I found out why my yellow zucchini, (which is in between 2 green zucchini that are doing well) is doing so poorly; my obsessive border collie is regularly trampling it in her regular patrolling. She is locked up in the kennel now when I am inside. It looks really bad right now.
We have packrats that come over the wall from the desert behind our house to raid the garden.
I wouldn't mind quite so much if they actually took the veggies with them or ate them, but many times I'll find them half-ripened, detached from the stem and sitting right against the back wall of the yard in a nice little row.
What really annoys me is that they'll take the tomatoes, nibble enough out of them that salvaging is pretty much out of the question, and then leave the rest. If you're going to eat the tomatoes, go ahead and eat them!

I know it's not funny, but I have to admit that I laughed at the mental image of veggies all neatly lined up.
