Sushi wooden playset
Our new wooden sushi slicing set in a beautifully painted bento box is just too cool! Three types of sushi rice (nigiri, oshi, and maki) pieces come with shrimp, tuna, salmon roe, and egg pieces. Ginger, wasabi, and a dish of shoyu (soy sauce) are included, along with chopsticks, a play cleaver, and a menu.

Cute! (Found a mention of it in this month's "Paste" magazine. It's also at Amazon for ~$14.)

We got that for Alex, and it's consistently been one of her FAVORITE toys for at least a year now. She's amazing on the subject -- she's a finicky eater, but she can put away a shocking quantity of sushi when we take her to a sushi restaurant. She does tend to take everything apart, and eat the rice followed by the fish, and she still has some very definite ideas about what stuff is OK to eat... but I've watched her eat nine pieces of nigiri at one sitting.

Isn't it? I can't imagine having a sushi playset when I was a kid, but then I'm pretty sure I couldn't have imagined sushi back then either. =)
