First I read Terry's post, then a bit later I read the Esquire piece John Scalzi linked to (hard to read, but it was impossible to stop), and now I'm really, really glad that I have an office with a door that closes so that I didn't have to explain to my coworkers why I was sobbing at my desk.

Goddamnit.

And not only have their lives been wasted on the current administration's folly... they've actually given their lives to make this planet a worse place, and this country weaker.

First time I've seen the Esquire piece. There's one about fallen Marines, from the November 11, 2005 Rocky Mountain News (http://www.rockymountainnews.com/news/2005/Nov/11/final-salute/).

I'm a PGR (http://www.patriotguard.org) member, although I've only been able to make one mission in the past several months. It always gets to me.

This is exactly how I don't want my students to end up.
