Thanks for the heads-up, dear! Although I have tickets for Thursday already for the Indigo Girls, and James may not be available to babysit... still, I'm thinking about it.
I've never seen them in concert. If I'd been smart enough to check the upcoming schedule and hence known that they were playing, I'd somehow have scratched enough small change out of the back of the couch to join you.
I am not going to think about how long ago I first bought a Beautiful South album.
If you can get to the 9:30 Club by 8:30, which is when they hit the stage (*grumble* stupid early show on essentially a weeknight), I could arrange for the use of a ticket for you. =)
D'oh. They just stopped selling tickets online since the doors are open as of a minute ago. I'll head in to the club and hit the box office, I suppose. If you want to meet up there, text my cellphone (link in my profile). I'm about to have to leave since I'm driving and 66 east is gonna suck right out loud.
I've discovered that there are more than a few of us out there who were introduced to the song by someone we were formerly involved with; this amuses me to no end.
I'd run across an unidentified tape, and vaguely remembered that my friend Richard had dubbed it for me while I lived in England. Played it in Badm's car.
Badm kept boggling: "This is the Housemartins! But I've never heard these songs!"
When we got back we googled the lyrics and identified the band as Beautiful South.
More than any of the other songs on the tape, Don't Marry Her stuck in both our heads. It's still his ringtone on my phone.
don't marry her somehow ended up as badm's andmy song
At dinner Saturday I tried to remember if that'd been before ezrs or not. For some reason I thought it had been, even though it makes lots more sense the other way.
Years before ezrs. I introduced Badm to the song, and boggled him with it, as here were the housemartins singing something he'd never heard. (later that night we googled the lyrics and found Beautiful South.)
