i've got my tin foil hat on

The weekend was so much better than I expected it to be. I admit I didn't go into it with the greatest attitude, since I wasn't thinking I wanted to be as social as we'd scheduled ourselves to be, and I somehow managed to get into a "discussion" at 1 am on Thursday night/Friday morning when I needed to get up in a few hours to make my train. Got in Friday at 7, then essentially went straight to the TNG dinner, where I unexpected ran into a friend of mine, B. Went home after dinner to change (black satin teardrop skirt from Yosa, black very fitted shirt, black satin with silver bone casings and trim underbust corset, black and silver sparkle fishnets and my 20i Docs). The Ball was hot, crowded and smoky, but not as much of any of those things as I'd expected. Got to put several faces to names that I recognized from places like LJ (like these folks).
I have to learn to not be a tongue-tied idiot when surrounded by beautiful women; I'm not sure I said a single coherent thing all evening. =)
Saturday was pretty slack, which was good. Went and had a yummy brunch, then sort of hung out doing not much for the afternoon. Relaxing. Went and had sushi with a bunch of folks from Homeport and several other friends at Ginza. Good time, although I didn't really get to talk to D. as much as I'd hoped. Back home, a couple hours of hanging out talking, then headed over to a Cinco de Mayo party. I was feeling very much "don't know anybody here, not having a good time at all" until Amy showed up and I didn't feel like I was going to either stand by myself in a corner or cling to M.
I did eventually realize that the person who I was trying to figure out if I had ever actually met before or if I just had seen him at a party someplace was him. Of course I still can't place where I'd met him before. =) Also met Sk., clearing up for him just who the hell "cathy@radix" was. *laugh*
Surreal conversational moment of the evening: "I'm going into the Stop n Shop with a 2x4. I've got my tin foil hat on. Don't touch the bagels with your hands!!!!" We'll ignore the reported conversation about where Tubby Custard really comes from.
Sunday was also nice and slack. Took advantage of the fact it was gorgeous outside to wander over to get lunch, then sit around and read for a while before heading to the train station. The trip back was very long and pretty much uneventful. I apparently gave off enough "don't sit next to me" vibes that I got to have a seat to myself except for the segment between New Haven and NYC. Then I got to Union Station only to not find Chris. I called his cell phone, and he told me that I'd have to take a cab home, since now the alternator in both our cars were dead. (I replaced my alternator just a tiny bit over 2 years ago, after having the car for about a year. I see a very disturbing trend developing here.) So, that part of the night was a completely non-optimal ending to an otherwise okay weekend.

Date: 2001-05-07 09:39 am (UTC)I don't think I can really express how badly I'm lusting after her geisha stuff. Unfortunately I can't justify it, since I almost never go anyplace that it would be appropriate. Perhaps once I'm steadily employed again, I'll manufacture occasions to wear it. ;)
Yosa's Geisha stuff
Something like this might be simple to make. I wish there were more hours in the day!!!

Date: 2001-05-07 11:19 am (UTC)I found out you were at my party and I still don't think we've ever met!
I was so busy trying to make sure everyone had things that they needed & that they were entertained - but I still can't believe that I missed meeting you. I think you were there during the busiest time of the night.
