Mini-review of the DeVotchKa/Norfolk And Western show:

\m/ THEREMIN SOLO!!! WOO!!! \m/

I thought I'd set the post-by-phone number in my address book, but sadly it wasn't there and so y'all don't get to share the joy of listening to it.

Honestly? I dislike the theremin. A lot. I can tolerate it in the small quantities DeVotchKa used it, but Norfolk and Western went more than a little overboard with it. I liked these guys, but I thought that once or twice they went kind of off the rails (like the extremely enthusiastic theremin solo mentioned above). The sound took a little while to get straightened out, which didn't help either. DeVotchKa was fabulous, of course, and I didn't even have to go to Boulder to see them. Yay!

Yay! Glad that you had a good time. :) I'd forgotten that was tonight, hence the message left.

You were right, but you knew that already.
The Bangles included a cover of "September Gurls" on their 1985 album Different Light. It's weird, September Girls [sic?] is such a natural Bangles song, at least in their version, that I never imagined it could be a cover.

At first glance it looks like the song they covered last night is original to Siouxsie: [...] the band offers up covers that range from Siouxsie And The Banshees' "The Last Beat Of My Heart" [...]. The percussion swell in the middle is very Budgie, but that's hardly a proof it's not a cover. Oh and it was on Peepshow, not Tinderbox. Hmm.

[sic?] meaning that as best I recalled it was spelled "September Girls" on my copy of Different Light. It's long gone, though, and Amazon disagrees, so who knows.
