Visit from friend: great fun. Very glad it worked out.

Weather: glorious. In the 70s and sunny most of the weekend.

Udvar-Hazy annex of the Air and Space Museum: nifty. They've got a shuttle ("Enterprise") and an SR-71 Blackbird, among many other things.

Pogues show on Friday night: kickass. I cannot remember the last time I had such a good time at a show. Shane was even sober enough to stay upright and mostly comprehensible. I have fuzzy cameraphone photos to email myself eventually. Gin: the wonder alcohol -- after several reasonably stiff gin and tonics at the show (I did not drive home, don't worry), I was pleased to wake up without a hangover and was miraculously able to see perfectly clearly when I woke up! Oh wait, that's because I fell asleep with my contacts in. Oops. You can tell I don't wear them very often.

Zoo on Saturday: nice, but should've gone earlier because winter hours have the buildings all closing up around 4:30 and the zoo closing at 6. Saw several adorable capybaras though.

Lounging around and not doing much most of Sunday: a fine plan.

Beth Orton show last night: fabulous. Even with it being the first night of the tour, with a dying guitar and a lung infection, she was great. I forgot how adorable she is with her banter and fondness for telling bad jokes on stage.

Livejournal since sometime Friday morning: ha! Likely not catching up since even on my smaller filters it's already at skip="several hundred", although I'll try. If there's something you want me to see, please send me a link.

I think the USAF Museum in Dayton, OH has a Blackbird. I know I've seen a couple of them up close. Amazing thing - leaks like a sieve until it gets to cruising speed. Shuttles are still cool, but after crawling around in Huntsville's mockups during adult space camp, I want one that works! :-)

I had done some work on a project for Brazil, where I stayed at a hotel that had a zoo in the back. The capybaras at this zoo were my favorite, and not a few times after work I went to the zoo just to watch the babies swim and stuff. It's interesting to me that you'd specifically mention them.
