Just to test it, try putting all your clothes and such out there. If you have so many you break the closet, I'd definitely put those out on the balcony before stepping foot out there first.
See, that's the thing. I don't have that many clothes really, it's more that the closet construction is really shoddy. That shelf didn't have any support other than the very thin metal braces which aren't really enough to hold more than a few items (bolted directly into the drywall with nothing to really keep them there), there were none of the standard side supports that should keep the shelf from falling like there are on all the other shelves. I just didn't notice that until it was way too late.
The balcony, however, holds me and my cat and our patio furniture just fine, with no wobbles even. :)
