DCist offers some helpful tips (along with a great title) for attending Beaujolais Nouveau uncorking parties, some of which you can find listed here.
Since I never quite got around to uncorking the bottle I bought last year, I'm thinking I might just pass. Unless one of you fine folks is really interested in getting together to drink wine at midnight.
Duboeuf created the wine world’s equivalent of Krispy Kreme’s flashing “Hot Doughnuts Now” sign. Each November, right after the Beaujolais wines from that year’s grape crop were bottled, Duboeuf began proclaiming that “Le Beaujolais Nouveau Est Arrivé!”—or, “The New Beaujolais Has Arrived.”
Wine wholesalers, retailers, restaurants and drinkers didn’t stop to wonder whether they’d even been waiting for it. They simply bought it and drank it.

The other thing, on this side of the water you probably want to wait until after New Years, to let it settle.
