As [livejournal.com profile] pecunium points out , it's interesting to see what gets labelled "finding bread and soda from a local grocery store" and what gets called "looting a grocery store".

*rolls eyes*

*sighs*

That would be a reminder of what I don't miss about living in the South

I've been called a conspiracy theorist for it.

The comment was deleted, so I don't quite know what to do with my response.

CNN has the kid picture, and they don't call it looting.

It appears one of the other people to link to me (my most ardent supporter, by way of links) has said troll.

I've had worse, and seem to have shut him up (simple things like not rolling over, and being both polite, and lacking in any sense of restraint probably help) so I can live with it.

I've also linked to you, though I've not commented. I tend to be slightly wary about commenting in journals of people whom I don't know.

Oh, also, should you like me not to link to you, I'd edit my post.

Feel free. I keep an open house, a "Liberty Hall, where you can spit on the mat and call the cat a bastard".

My info page spells it all out.

Several people on my flist have linked to pics or news reports with similar loaded use of the verbs.

It's currently being discussed on [livejournal.com profile] debunkingwhite. And someone there points out that pics of POC in the Superdome are being labeled as "people who chose not to leave" while pics of white people are being labeled "people who could not afford to leave."

What I find fascinating is the vigorous denial of many white people that this kind of discrimination could be manifesting in news photo captions. I've read all kinds of flimsy justifications for the disparity. This makes me even sadder than the original media racism.

I saw that difference in yahoo's pics, but I've seen the same set elsewhere, with "looting" in both captions.
