Today's headline from the print version of The Washington Post:

Bush Says War Is Worth Sacrifice

I'm sure the families of the 1900+ coalition casualties so far would all agree, not to mention the thousands of Iraqis that freedom has marched right over. Nothing says "You've been liberated from oppression, isn't life so much better now?" quite like suicide bombers and assassinations.

I'm somewhat bemused by this. So, he went into a country that was more or less stable, no matter how much he disliked the government, killed a lot of folk destabilizing it, and now it's "worth the sacrifice" to clean up the mess he made? You know, he's got two healthy daughters; I'm sure he could contribute at least one to the cause. She'd make a great maintanance clerk, say.

I was watching TV while my car was getting lubed today, and they were interviewing Iraqis about the current state of affairs. One fairly non-zonko, non-fanatic, clean-cut, intelligent-sounding guy way saying "Things are bad. We cannot go out at night. We are not safe. Things are worse than under Saddam, much worse. I wish we had Saddam back; things would not be this bad."

Mr President, does that tell you anything?

I agree with the Puppet to this extent: we can't just cut and run now (as, it would appear, conservatives like Rep. Freedom Fries now want to). We've started it, we have to do whatever it takes to leave the coutnry at least as stable as it was when we invaded. But at the same time, I want some accountability. I want this president out of office; I want the people who planned the war out of a job, with no future in policy work, ever again. I want to see Bush signing letters to the families of men his war has killed. And I want to see people who are coming back with wounds and with PTSD treated like the heroes they are, with proper healthcare and pensions, even if they are "only" reservists.

I'm afraid, however, that I'm not going to see any of those things.

I hate to start using the V word in comparisons, but damn this is getting close.

As one of those family members, I can whole heartedly say, I do not feel that the sacrifice of my cousin's life was worth the current mess.

sure, lets see if he feels the same way once we put all his family members who are the right age out on the front lines fighting.
